Our Mission:

Our Mission is to enrich lives by providing a Christian atmosphere
in which any person with a special need, regardless of his/her
financial situation has the opportunity to learn about, care for, and
ride a horse.

All words aside, we use animals (cats, dogs, horses, frogs, etc) to
minister to people exactly where they are in life.
About Precious Helpers Horse Farm, Inc.

Precious Helpers is located in Southern Indiana, just north of
Louisville, Ky.  The program is utilized by the surrounding
communities in both Kentucky and Indiana.

Ages from barely a year to over 65 are enjoying the benefits of
building a bond with the horses of Precious Helpers.  We have been
blessed to see people with the following special needs: Juvenile
Arthritis, visually impaired, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy,
troubled teens, Bipolar, Autism, people with depression, people
from surrounding shelters, Hemophilia, suicidal thoughts, physical
disabilities, mental disabilities,  ADHD, brain tumors, and many
more.

Precious Helpers strives to encourage that accepting and loving
bond between horse and rider. We try to take advantage of the
unique ability of a horse to break down emotional and spiritual
barriers.  Some days we only feed carrots and some days we ride.
Strict lesson plans do not guide us, the comfort level and interests
of the individual does.  In return, parents have said they see grade
improvements, self-esteem improvements, and better social
functioning in their children and young adults.  We have had
parents with tear stained cheeks tell how incredible it was to see
their child with a sense of pride and contentment as they groomed
or rode his/her horse as most of these children are not able to
participate in sports and other "normal" activities.

Precious Helpers is not a hippotherapy program in which a PT or
OT does a therapy session on horseback.  Our program also does
not encourage riding until the participant, his/her family, and horse
are all ready for the task.  We will not force anyone to ride as this
causes discomfort and anxiety for horse and rider.  We work at a
pace comfortable to all involved.

Horse History

In February of 2004, we were donated our first three horses: Jimmy, Mandi, and
Trooper.  Trooper was a bit more spirited than the program wanted.  Therefore, he has
a new home where he receives lots of love and attention.  We were then donated
Mocha, and then Elvis in the spring.   Munchie and Lovely were  added to our family
in July of '04.  Amos arrived in January of 2005 after we made the tough decision that
Lovely was not working out for the program. She was given back to her former
owners. Sunny was a Christmas present in 2006.  Shady and Rio joined the herd in the
summer of 2007.  Guymonday joined the herd in 2008, Liberty the summer of 2009;
and, Michellena joined us in the fall of 2009.  We now have a total of nine horses fully
active in the program.

Elvis (2005) and Munchie (2007) are now running through the pastures in heaven.  As
much as we miss them, they will always remain a part of our herd. We lost them both
to cancer. They both lived well over 20 years old: Elvis was every bit over 30 and
Munchie was 29.  We also lost Mocha in the fall of 2009 to colic.  She was around 7
years old.
